Our Story: An Unexpected Journey to Beauty

If you had told us years ago that we'd be where we are now, we would have laughed! Living in L.A., the epicenter of glam, you’d think we had always dreamt of working in the beauty industry. But that wasn’t the plan at all.

Johanna (Mom) was deep in the hustle of corporate life, building a career in Customer Relations, while Kimberly (Daughter) was just gearing up to conquer the world post-high school. Kimberly decided to enroll in cosmetology school, which Johanna celebrated—mostly because she was about to have her very own in-house hair stylist!

Kimberly, ambitious and fresh out of school, jumped into salon life, testing the waters at various places. But something was missing. Her heart pulled her back to nannying, where she found real joy (and maybe soothed a bit of baby fever—she just loves kids!).

Meanwhile, Johanna was 23+ years into a job that had become predictable. Then, a twist of fate: a friend confessed she was bored and casually asked Johanna to join her in beauty school. A simple "why not?" turned into a life-changing decision. And just like that, a passion was born.

New Lashes, Who Dis?

Johanna’s first lash course was all it took. She was hooked! Her excitement spilled over, and luckily, she had the perfect lash model at home—Kim. Pretty soon, the duo became inseparable in their lashing adventures. Of course, Johanna wanted those gorgeous lashes too, so she passed on her newfound knowledge, and a mother-daughter lash duo.

From Dreams to XOJO Beauty

It didn’t take long for Johanna to realize she’d found her true calling in Camarillo under the name Fresh Face Diva. All the while, a dream was brewing—a studio of her very own.

Kim, still nurturing her love for kids, found herself catching the beauty bug again and launched her own business, The Homegirl Kim, working from a private suite in Thousand Oaks.

Fast Forward to Now

We weathered the storms of COVID (closing, reopening, and maybe a little undercover lashing—iykyk!). Through every twist and turn, one thing stayed true: our passion. Finally, after all the highs and lows, we found our perfect home back at Village at The Park  and created the studio of our dreams, XOJO Beauty.
